Book Review - Masked Innocence by Alessandra Torre

My Thoughts

In Blindfolded Innocence, the first book in this series, Julia meets and falls for Brad. Their relationship is complicated by a working relationship and a secret lifestyle that Brad lives. He challenges Julia in many ways including exploring that lifestyle. This is the story of how their relationship begins.

Masked Innocence, the second book, picks up in their story after they have shared an experience and Julia has agreed to explore that lifestyle with Brad. This is the story of how they take their relationship to the next level. There is more to this story though. There is a murder that puts Julia in danger and also reveals that Brad has more than one secret.

I actually liked the second book more than the first one due to the murder and the after effects of it part of their story. I will tell you that when Brad's secret was revealed, I totally didn't see it coming. Blindsided me. I enjoy Julia very much as she is different from most characters in these kinds of stories. She is strong, smart, and secure in who she is and what she wants. Put that together with an alpha hottie and there is definitely some sparks going on.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see what's in store for them!

I give Masked Innocence 4 hearts!

You can purchase the book here:

The man was sinful. It wasn't just the looks that made him dangerous, it was the cocky confidence that dominated every move, every touch. And the frustrating yet ecstatic fact about the whole package was that he could back it all up…

Julia Campbell never knows what to expect with win-at-all-costs Brad De Luca. And she's starting to like it that way. She gave up safe, conventional relationships when she let the elite divorce attorney seduce her into his world. Now that he's determined to strip her naked of every inhibition, she's in danger of falling too deep and too fast.

But their affair begins to feel even more dangerous when a murder leaves a trail of suspicion that points straight to the mob…and Brad. Trusting a man with a bad reputation and a past full of secrets seems like a mistake. But when she's forced to make a choice, the consequences will take her further than she could ever have imagined.

Book Review - Jabril by D.B. Reynolds

My Thoughts

I couldn't wait to read Jabril
After the way Raphael ended, I just had to have some more of Cynthia and Raphael. This book is second in the series by D.B. Reynolds called Vampires in America.

After her last case for Raphael, word spread to Jabril about the talent that Cynthia has for finding lost people. Jabril is another vampire lord based in Houston, so Cynthia travels there to work for him. Little does she know that Jabril has much more in mind both for her and for the one lost. He's a very, very bad vampire. Scary evil.

I loved so many things about this book. The action part of the story had quite a few surprises in store including one involving a certain sister. Cynthia continues to dive right into in all to save the day. She puts herself out there to do what's right, even when there could be consequences. We got to see more of Raphael's second, Duncan, which I am crushing on super hard. I can't wait to read his book.

Of course I LOVED the sizzle between Cynthia and Raphael. So much. I won't spoil it for you, but will just say it's continued hotness.

I wholeheartedly give Jabril 5 pulse-pounding hearts!

You can purchase this book here:

About the Book

Houston, Texas—Cowboy boots, baseball, and journeys to the stars . . . right?

Wrong. Because Houston is also home to Jabril Karim, one of the eight powerful vampire lords who control all of North America. And as Private Investigator Cynthia Leighton will soon discover, not all vampire lords are created equal.

Jabril is the face of evil in the new world, a vampire who values no life but his own, who enslaves those he desires, steals whatever he covets, and destroys anyone who stands in his way.

Running from L.A. and its seductive vampire lord, Raphael, Cyn sees the Houston job as a welcome refuge, a place to get away and heal her broken heart. But Texas will be no vacation. Cyn will confront a true enemy in Jabril, one who will go to any lengths to satisfy his lusts, enrich his coffers, and expand his power.

Fighting for the lives of two young sisters, Cyn’s journey will take her through the streets of Houston and back to L.A., where the human police are determined to bring Raphael down for the murder of one of their own. But the danger doesn’t end there.

Jabril has set his sights on Cyn, and he will stop at nothing to have her.

Book Review: Raphael by D.B. Reynolds

My Thoughts

Take one super strong and smart P.I. named Cynthia and add a dangerous and powerful vamp named Raphael and mix in a bit of mystery and romance and you've got one heck of a story. I absolutely LOVED Raphael by D.B. Reynolds!

When Cynthia left the police force she imagined her investigative skills being used by the rich and famous. Little did she know that saving the life of one vampire would change everything. She ends up making a name for herself in the vampire community which makes her the first person Raphael thinks of when he needs someone to find someone he cares about.

The chemistry sizzles between Cynthia and Raphael from the moment of their first meeting and I mean HOT. Cynthia fights it because the reality is that Raphael is a very bad boy and a vampire which doesn't equal happily ever after in her mind, no matter how dreamy he is. And I mean DREAMY.

I really enjoyed the mystery part of the story and especially the fact that Cynthia figured it out before anyone else. I also am crushing on Raphael's second in command, Duncan, and can't wait to read his story. Have I mentioned that this is part of a series? Oh yeah. Love that as well. There's more to come in the Vampires in America series. I can't wait to read the next one. I am hooked.

I compellingly give Raphael full-blooded 5 hearts!

You can purchase Raphael here:

About the Book

Malibu, California—home to rock-and-roll gods and movie stars, the beautiful, the rich . . . and vampires. Powerful and charismatic, Raphael is a Vampire Lord, one of the few who hold the power of life and death over every vampire in existence. Thousands call him Master and have pledged absolute loyalty on their very lives. But when, in a brazen and deadly daylight attack, a gang of human killers kidnaps the one female vampire he’d give his life for, Raphael turns to a human investigator to find his enemies before it’s too late.

Cynthia Leighton is smart, tough and sexy, a private investigator and former cop who’s tired of spying on cheating spouses and digging out old bank accounts. When Raphael asks for her help in tracking down the kidnappers, Cyn’s happy to accept. But she soon realizes her greatest danger comes not from the humans, but from Raphael himself. Battling Russian mobsters and treacherous vampires, and betrayed by those they trusted, Cyn and Raphael find themselves fighting for their lives while caught up in a passion of blood and violence that is destined to destroy them both.

Book Review - How to Liv by Megan Keith

My Thoughts

The novella I read that hooked me on anything that Megan writes was Eraser. And when I say read, I mean inhaled. If you've read it, you totally get what I'm talking about. If you haven't, go and click now. Seriously. Now. I'll wait.

So when Megan asked for bloggers to read and review her newest book, I was giddy as a school girl getting ready for homecoming. I couldn't wait to read How to Liv.

Olivia's story begins with a peek at her monotonous life filled with her job at the factory, a few friends, and her sister for a roommate. On her way home from work one day she stops for tampons and a chocolate fix and gets much more than she bargained for as she meets Joel reaching for Tim Tams. I loved the shy flirting that ensued as they shopped afterwards.

Truth is I totally get Olivia. From her feeling like she has to try so much harder at things than her sister to the walls she put up to guard her heart...I get her and I really like her. Swooned with her in anticipation of her first date with Joel. Squeed with her as they watched a movie over the phone for the first time together. Giggled and blushed with her at every "spank you" spoken. I loved the woo...the dance as her walls tumbled and they fell for each other.

There isn't just sweet in their story, but a whole lot of sizzle as well. I'm talking scorching hot. Joel is quite the bossy man and likes to tease. Yes, please. The morning after with pancakes and Adam's family was hilarious. I heart Raelene.

I won't give away the rest of Olivia and Joel's story because I really want you to read it for yourself. You will love it.

Oh and Megan...
Spank you very much for sharing Olivia and Joel!

I totally give How to Live 5 hearts!

Book Review - Bared by Stacey Kennedy

My Thoughts

I absolutely LOVED Presley and Dmitri's story in Claimed and couldn't wait to read the next book in Stacey Kennedy's Club Sin Series. Bared is Cora and Aidan's story and it is a scorcher.

From the very first page it is obvious that this couple has some serious hotness happening and don't even get me started on the make-up sex...whew! While Cora and Aidan are making a definite connection in that way, they aren't in a committed relationship together. What? I know...I was thinking the same thing and that is where the issue between them begins. One seeing what could be and another still caught up in what was.

I have to admit that there were moments when it was painful to read them walking through this. There were a few times that I wanted to jump into the book and shake both of them. Thank goodness they both had great friends to do that for me. I so love Presley. Chick flick and chocolate...enough said. Oh and I adore Kyler as well and can't wait to read his story (crossing fingers that his might be next).

I totally give Bared 5 hearts!

But his dominant façade conceals a devastating loss—something he instantly recognizes in his personally trained submissive Cora Adams. Sworn to unearth her secrets, Aidan uses his seductive skills to ignite her wildest desires until Cora yields to the pleasure she can find only with him.

Cora came to the BDSM club to act out her sub-and-dom fantasies without ever revealing the heartbreak that haunts her. But Aidan’s masterful touch is bringing her closer to the edge . . . and deeper into a world of control and surrender. He refuses to allow her to submit to any other man—nor does she want to. It’s a dangerous game they’re playing. For as they give in to passion, they must lay bare their souls for a love that could heal—and free—them both.

Excerpt

“We can’t do anything else out here,” she said. “Not tonight.”
She was being so careful with him. Too careful.
“Don’t,” he bit out as he stalked toward her. The others weren't close enough to overhear, so he could lower his guard and let some of his fury out.
Cadence shook her head. “Don’t what?”
He wanted to wrap his hands around her. To pull her close.
No, I just want to touch her. To feel her.
“Don’t handle me with your damn kid gloves, Cadence.” The words were snapped. “I’m not some victim you have to coddle.”
He’d rolled up the sleeves of his dress shirt—like that had done much good. He was covered with grime and sweat and plenty of insect bites.
I fucking hate summers in the South.
Insects were chirping all around them, and he’d had to dodge snakes in the bushes for most of the evening.
“I never thought you were a victim.” Cadence turned from him and headed for the car.
She knew he’d follow her. Wasn't he always trailing after her?
Wasn't he the one who always kept the need in check? The desire he damn well knew they both felt.
After today—after this hell—why couldn’t they turn to each other for some comfort and release? Let that desire burst free?
Replace death with pleasure.
