My Thoughts
One of my favorite kinds of book to read is a romantic thriller. Give me a juicy suspenseful mystery that I can't unravel until the very end and I am hooked. Now there has to be a damsel in distress, of course, but definitely not one of those whiny "oh I am just so weak. where is the big strong man to save me?" kind of girls. I am talking about a strong, smart, and sexy chick that can stand by her guy as he protects her while they solve the mystery together. Now about this guy...there's nothing like an alpha bossy-man ready to do anything and everything to protect his girl. One that is both a sweet and dirty talker with said girl definitely gets bonus points. Double those points if there's a heartfelt soul baring moment filled with words of love.
Risk of a Lifetime is one of those books.
It all begins with Marcy and several others being held hostage. When she is sent outside to the police to make demands, she comes face to face with someone she least expects to see - her ex-husband. (Or is he really her ex? Hang on. We're going to come back to that in a few minutes.) Gunshots are fired and the bad guy is taken down, but they begin to suspect that Marcy was the target as the shooter continued to fire.
After several more attempts on her life, they become sure that Marcy is in danger and JB is determined to not only protect her but also find out who is trying to kill her. They go on the run with the killer fast approaching. I will tell you that I had absolutely NO idea who it was and was FLOORED at the big reveal. I was on the edge of my seat for that whole scene. Too good.
During their time on the run the layers of the relationship is peeled back and we see that both Marcy and JB are apart out of fear. She fears losing him because of how dangerous his job is with the FBI and he fears that he will never be good enough for her. So until their love is bigger than those fears, they stay apart. (Oh about that whole ex-husband thing...she sent divorce papers. He signed said papers. She never filed. They are still married. He doesn't know.) Can't tell you how that all works out. You're just going to have to read it for yourself.
I absolutely LOVED Risk of a Lifetime!
I can't wait to read what Claudia writes next!
I give Risk of a Lifetime 5 hearts!

About the Author
Award-winning author Claudia Shelton thought she wrote
mainstream when she began writing, but before long, someone told her she
sounded more like romance. Then those pesky alpha heroes and the women strong
enough to love them, started running through her mind insisting she write their
own happily-ever-after. Since then, she's focused on HEA with a splash of
suspense or intrigue, becoming a two-time finalist in the Daphne Du Maurier
(Unpublished) awards for excellence in mystery and suspense. During her down-time
from writing, you'll find her sipping a cup of cocoa in winter's chill or
enjoying a drink by the water in summer's heat--either way, she's always
enjoying life.
