Oh my! Van's back! I wondered what happened to him after he vanished at the end of Deliver. You absolutely have to read Deliver first. You really have to read Deliver first before this book. You will need to understand the backstory of all that happened. There are some reveals in this one that could ruin the big surprises in Deliver.
Van is stalking Liv and Joshua while sitting across the street at what he believes to be an abandoned house. It has blackened windows and he hasn't seen anyone coming or going from the house except for a delivery guy.
Amber is agoraphobic and has major anxiety attacks when she steps outside her home. She can't even make it out to the mailbox and back. The sunlight through the windows disturbs her as well.
Van sees her trying to make a run for her mail and witnesses her coming apart when she spots him on her porch. She ends up inviting him into her home for a bargain. Once he gets a peek at her very own kind of crazy, it solidifies his want to take her. So of course Van takes her to his home. This is the beginning of him trying to break her wanting so much to erase all of her issues and anxieties. Finding out his reason for taking her will flip her out especially when he says that he is going to Liv.
This is a story of two broken people coming together to heal. Van while the darkest in his own mind, speaks to Amber's heart to make things better for her. At the same time he also lowers his walls and at times even shows some vulnerability. In helping her overcome, he will find himself.
I loved Vanquish - crazy and all.
I give it 5 hearts!
