Max was taken from her home and her family killed by a sadistic Scar needing her for her healing abilities. He used her and abused her for a long time before she was rescued by someone and was forever changed. She built up walls while she was a prisoner that she would always have to keep in place so that no one would find out her secret. Never smiling. Never laughing. Never feeling. She went through the motions of living. Until Jasper. He has been hired to protect her yet he is her biggest weakness. He continuously torments her with his kisses and reminders that there will never be anything between them. He is broken by something that happened in his past and has secrets of his own hidden. He can't resist his sunshine though and things get scorching hot between them. He feels something more for her and he breaks her open to begin to feel again. Then the monster finds her and truths come to light. They have to fight for each other and destroy the monster putting both of them in danger.
I so loved Jasper and the naughty words that just flowed out of his mouth. But I equally loved the heart of him that came out of his mouth as well. Not the callousness that he hid behind to protect himself, but the true that he eventually revealed. Now that was hot. My heart broke for Max in all that she suffered at the hands of Drake, but I loved seeing her heal at the hands of Jasper. That was beautiful. Just more of why I absolutely love and devour everything that Nashoda writes. She captures me with her words of the very first page and leaves me wanting more when I hit the last one. I really can't wait to read more in this series.

“Put it on. You stick out like a fuckin’ cotton candy with those stupid horse sparkles.”
I quickly put it on over top and it hung down to my mid-thigh. The scent of him drew into my lungs and I inhaled deeply with my chin down until I heard his distinct chuckle. Then I wanted to shoot myself in the foot.
Jasper’s hand came around the back of my neck and he jerked me toward him. He cupped my chin with his blade still in his hand so the handle was cold against my jaw. Then he leaned in and before I could take my next breath, his mouth was on mine.
